NONTHABURI, June 17 (TNA) – Sales of local products
at the OTOP Midyear fair reached 125 million baht on the first day of its
opening.
Nearly 43,000 people attended the fair, which kicked
off on Saturday at Impact Muang Thong Thani under the theme of “Otop
Signature” to promote the uniqueness of Thai handicrafts, produced by
local communities across the country.
The Community Development Department (CDD) instructed
operators to increase supplies to meet the demand during the nine-day event,
which will end on June 23.
Nisit Chansomwong, CDD director said that the fair attracted
a huge crowd and the sales surpassed the target at 100 million baht by 25 per
cent to reach 125 million baht.
The most popular items at the fair are clothes and
apparels, followed by OTOP Best Seller products and utensils and home
decorations.
Under the government’s tax incentives to promote domestic
spending, taxpayers can use receipts from purchasing OTOP goods during April
30- June 30 for tax deduction of up to 15,000 baht. (TNA)
