BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced the government was ready to effectively manage water resources for people’s well-being.
He made the announcement while opening an event on water management in the rainy season in 2019. Representatives of about 40 water-related organizations attended the event.
The growing population was raising demand for water while the government was trying to protect forests and solve water pollution, Gen Prayut said. The government attached importance to solutions from upstream to downstream sections of waterways and was supplying enough water to all villages and industrial areas, he said.
The prime minister said that past water management projects of his government benefited 4.35 million people and 3.15 million rai of land. He also said that drought-stricken areas had been shrinking since 2014 and three provinces suffered water shortages this year.
Water solutions were based on the Water Resources Act of 2018, a master plan on the management of water resources and the Office of National Water Resources.
Gen Prayut said that the government would add to its major water-related policies innovations, up-to-date water-related information and people’s knowledge to cope with water situations. (TNA)
