BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) – The amended Government Lottery Office Act, put into effect yesterday increases punishment for retailers of overpriced lottery tickets and those, who sell the tickets at schools and educational institutions or to people under 20 years of age.
Director-General of the Government Lottery Office, Boonsong Jansisri said under the new law, violators will be fined up to 10,000 baht.
Before the law amendment, they faced a maximum fine of 2,000 baht.
Moreover, the new law authorizes the GLO board to consider issuing new government lottery formats such as online lotteries.
The process to issue new lotto products will be discussed by the GLO board and it will also listen to opinions of stakeholders before the new Cabinet will consider the proposal in the last stage.
The amended law also changes the allocation of the lottery ticket sales revenues, paving the way for the issuing of the online lotto tickets.
According to the plan of online lotteries, if there is no first prize winner on the first draw of the month, the prize will be added to the next draw on the 16th of the month.
If there is still no winner in the second draw of the month, the prize will go to state coffers. (TNA)
