BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) – Thailand’s gem and jewelry exports
will get a short-term windfall from the trade war between China and the US,
says the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT).
GIT Director Duangkamol Jiambutr said exports of Thai gems
and jewelry to the US was expected to rise due to higher tariff on Chinese
products.
The US is third-largest importer of Thai gems and jewelry
product, which is also the country’s third-largest export product category.
However, from the impact of supply chain, Thailand’s gem
exports to China would decline as Chinese manufacturers were affected by the
trade war, she said.
Duangkamol urged exporters to explore market opportunities
and new platform to ease the negative impacts of the US-China trade war. (TNA)
