NAKHON RATCHASIMA, April 11 (TNA) – Heavy traffic has been reported on Mittraparb Highway, the main highway to the northeastern region and Bangkok’s bus terminal is crowded as the Songkran holiday exodus has begun.
Traffic on the portion of the Mittraparb Highway, passing the Lamtakong dam is expected to be the heaviest this evening at a motorway construction zone from km. 84-92.
Highway police have opened a special lane to increase traffic flow at congested areas.
Meanwhile, the Transport Co.,Ltd., operator of the interprovincial buses expects the passenger number will reach 190,000 people today, the last working day before the Songkran Thai New Year holiday.
Traffic congestion has been seen at the Mor Chit 2 bus terminal as people are travelling to catch the buses to their hometowns upcountry.
Hualamphong train station, Bangkok’s main station is packed with passengers. The State Railway of Thailand expects there will be about 100,000 train passengers, leaving the capital today and about 900,000 passengers for the whole holiday period.
It has increased train carriages at full capacity for all 242 trains. Additional train trips have been arranged for both outbound passengers from April 11-13 and inbound passengers from April 15-17 to serve a maximum of 120,000 passengers per day. (TNA)
