BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) – MCOT Public Company Limited
(MCOT), formerly the Mass Communication Organization of Thailand, celebrates
the 67th anniversary of its establishment at its head office in Bangkok on Tuesday.
A Buddhist merit making ceremony was held early in the morning, in which the company’s executives and personnel
participated.
A Royal Decree on the establishment of the state-run Mass
Communication Organization of Thailand (MCOT) took effect on April 9, 1977 when
all television and radio broadcast services, as well as personnel of the Thai
Television Co.,Ltd., the first TV station in Thailand known as Thai TV Channel
4, were also transferred to MCOT.
On August 17, 2004, MCOT was registered as a public company
limited under the State Enterprises Capital Act, with the Thai Ministry of
Finance holding its largest shares of over 65 per cent. The company has
remained under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Having become a most established Thai media firm, MCOT now
runs two digital television stations, MCOT Radio Networks, Thai News Agency
(TNA) and its online news services, as well as other supporting units. (TNA)
