BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will call on foreign diplomats for clarification after they observed the situation when Future Forward party leader, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit reported to the police station to hear the sedition charge on Saturday.
Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said their action was against the diplomatic protocol of the United Nations because the matter concerned the Thai justice system.
They can observe the proceeding if the case is involved their nationals.
In Thanathorn’s case, if they are invited by Thai people to observe, they should ask the foreign ministry whether they could accept such an invitation.
It is not only etiquette but it is also the international regulation, Don said.
The minister said he will call on envoys for talks to create understanding in many issues.
Representatives from foreign embassies including Australia, France, Germany, the UK and the US, as well as EU and UN human rights officials showed up at the Pathumwan police station on Saturday to observe the proceedings when Thanathorn reported to the police to hear the charges.
He was charged with sedition under Section 116 of the Criminal Code, helping a suspect escape and assembling of more than 10 persons, which created chaos in the country. (TNA)
