KRABI, March 18 (TNA) – Krabi governor orders a swift action to stop wastewater, flowing into the sea at Ao Nang beach following tourist complaints about foul smell of water at this famous tourist beach in Krabi.
The provincial governor, Pol Lt Col M.L. Kitibordi Prawit ordered a contractor, dredging a canal, which flows into the sea to solve the water pollution quickly.
The contractor conceded that the dredging work caused the wastewater in the canal to flow into the sea.
A temporary soil embankment is being built to block the wastewater as the immediate action for the short-term solution.
Meanwhile, Deputy Krabi governor said the inspection found that business operators did not comply with regulations, requiring them to treat the wastewater before releasing.
They did not renew their licenses, so officials could not check the source of the wastewater, he said
Most restaurants at Ao Nang also failed to install grease trap, he added.
Those business operators, who fail to meet the standard in wastewater management will be prosecuted. (TNA)
