BANGKOK, March 6 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Ayutthaya province will jointly organize the 15th Wai Kru Muaythai ceremony, hoping the Thai martial art will draw more than 3,500 visitors to the event.
The world’s biggest respect-paying ceremony for Thai boxing masters, known as “Waikru” will be held at the Mahathat temple on March 16-17 from 1 pm. to 7.30 pm.
Famous Thai and foreign boxers will perform the traditional dance for the Waikru ritual. Among the highlights are a professional Thai boxing competition, Thai ancient-styled boxing demonstrations from various training camps and Yantra tattooing and writing.
TAT’s Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, Sujitra Jongchansitto said this year, TAT promotes Thai traditions to attract tourists in a bid to expand tourism markets in the middle and upper levels.
Many Thai boxing practitioners worldwide attended the event in the past years to express their gratitude to masters and stay in Thailand for travelling. It is expected about 30 million baht will be circulated. (TNA)
