BANGKOK, March 6 (TNA) – The State Railway of Thailand signed a contract for the construction of the 11-kilometer-long Si Khiu-Kudjik section of the Sino-Thai high-speed railway scheme. The construction is expected to start in April.
The state enterprise signed the contract with Civil Engineering Co. It is part of the high-speed railway project from Bangkok to Nong Khai province in the Northeast.
Presiding over the signing ceremony, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said it was another big step of national transport development because the railway would connect to Chinese railways that covered Asia. Besides, during the construction, Thailand would receive railway technology from China, he said.
Acting SRT governor Worawut Mala said the construction of the 11km section would start in April and 12 more contracts for other sections of the high-speed railway would be signed within July.
The construction of the first section, 3.5km from Klang Dong to Pang Asok, began and was 45% completed, he said.
The first two sections are in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima. (TNA)
