KHON KAEN, Feb 26 (TNA) – Drought has come early this year and the northeastern province of Khon Kaen is facing the worst drought in 20 years, said Khon Kaen governor, Somsak Jangtrakul.
The province’s major dam, Ubolrat dam currently stores water at 28 per cent of its capacity, considered as very small amount of storage water, he said.
The province has implemented the comprehensive water management plan to ensure there will be enough water consumption during the dry season.
Local authorities will divert water from the major Mun and Chee rivers for storage in public ponds, survey artesian water and build weirs to increase water storage.
The province asks people to use water wisely. Basket fish farmers are advised to stop their businesses, raising fish in the Phong River to prevent losses and farmers should cultivate short duration crops in the dry season. (TNA)
