BANGKOK, Feb 12 (TNA) – Baby Leatherback sea turtles hatched on Kuek Kak Beach in the Andaman coastal province of Phang-nga yesterday.
A mother turtle had laid eggs there in December for the first time in five years.
Head of the Marine and Coastal Resources Department, Jatuporn Buruspat said that the first batch of 20 baby turtles emerged from the sand around 7 pm. on Monday as they were closely watched by CCTV cameras.
Officials watched and helped them to ensure that they made their way to the sea safely.
There are another two nests nearby, where baby Leatherback turtles will hatch later.
