BANGKOK, Jan 31 (TNA) – Bangkok started using drones to spray water in six critically haze-hit areas in an attempt to reduce fine dust particles.
Bangkok Governor, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang presided over the launching of drones, the first agricultural drone flying in the capital.
The two-day operation has been carried out by volunteers from the drone user club in Nakhon Ratchasima and Chaiyaphum.
Six drone flying bases are Laan Khon Muang at the city hall, the Phra Sri Mahathat Temple in Bangkhen district, Kasetsart University, Chutuchak Park to fly over Lat Phrao intersection, Lumpini Park and Rama IV Road and the Rama IX bridge in Bang Kor Laem district.
Each drone flies in the radius of two kilometres and has capacity to carry ten litres of water. Each flight takes 20 minutes.
Bangkok governor said the drone operation may not tackle the problem 100 per cent but it is better than doing nothing.
The city hall invites persons with knowledge in both drone flying and haze solutions to attend the meeting with him at 2 pm. today to find better ways to tackle the air pollution.
Besides spraying water in the air by drones, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also sprays water onto the air by trucks and washes roads and pavements. (TNA)
