BANGKOK, Jan 8 (TNA) – The Thai government has raised
donations to help victims of tropical storm Pabuk as Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha promised quick rehabilitation.
The prime minister personally donated 100,000 baht at the
Prime Minister’s Office in the compound of Government House and also picked up
donors’ phone calls to a fund-raising event that MCOT organised Monday night
for storm victims there.
Many governmental and private organisations also made
donations. They included the Labour Ministry which donated 2.15 million baht,
the Stock Exchange of Thailand 4.10 million baht, the Electricity Generating
Authority of Thailand 10 million baht, PTT and Thaioil Energy Services 30
million baht and King Power 5 million baht.
Gen Prayut said although the storm ended, its impacts
continued in many provinces including Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and
Chumphon. The government would conclude damage surveys and repair damaged
properties as soon as possible, he said.
According to him, ongoing surveys show that the storm killed
four people and damaged 11,849 houses, 55 roads and five bridges.
The prime minister also said that His Majesty the King
ordered revenues from the Un Ai Rak Khlai Khwam Nao or Love and Warmth at
Winter’s End festival to be diverted to help affected people.
As of 9.30pm on Monday, donations amounted to 129 million
baht. Donors can transfer money for the purpose to the fund’s Krung Thai Bank
account number 067-0-06895-0 or send money in person at Government House.
Necessities can be delivered at the disaster prevention and
mitigation offices in provinces. (TNA)
