CHIANG RAI, Dec 13 (TNA) – The parade, carrying the statue of the former Navy Seal who died in the cave rescue attempt, is held in Chiang Rai.
The procession, decorated with flowers moved from the Rong Khun temple to the Tham Luang – Khun Nam Nang Non forest park, where the statue of Lt-Commander Saman Gunan will be installed in front of the Tham Luang cave.
People stood along the road to welcome the parade, joined by the Wild Boars young footballers and their coach. Saman’s wife and national artist, Chalermchai Kositpipat, the project leader were also present in the parade.
The coach, Ekkapol Chantawong, who was rescued from the flooded cave almost six months ago, said he would remember “Sergeant Sam” for the rest of his life and will be a good person in gratitude to Saman’s dedication to save his life and the boys.
The 2.4-metre statue was built to commemorate the former Navy Seal diver. A museum is under construction at Tham Luang to depict and honour the rescue mission there. (TNA)
