PORT MORESBY, Nov 17 (TNA) — Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha arrived Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, early Saturday to attend a two-day 26th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting.
Accompanied by his wife and high-ranking government officers, Gen Prayut is expected to push five major issues, derived from last year APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) meeting at this meeting which begins today.
The main theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future’.
APEC leaders will concentrate on economic development among the member countries, on sustainable growth and promoting growth through structural reforms.
The five issues to be pushed for implementation by Gen Prayut during the meeting are digital economy, especially cyber security, APEC Strategy for Green, Sustainable and Innovative MSMEs, and tightening relationships between the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), ASEAN and the APEC.
Other major issues are promoting bilateral trade under regulations of the World Trade Organisation and visions of the APEC after 2020.
The Thai government leader is expected to also raise actions implemented by the kingdom which are related with APEC.
This afternoon, Gen Prayut is scheduled to attend a briefing for APEC leaders, attend discussions among APEC leaders, attend discussions with the US, Hong Kong and the Philippines leaders.
He will later in the day attend a meeting with leaders of Pacific Islands Countries and attend a dinner, to be hosted by the prime minister and his wife of Papua New Guinea at a hotel. (TNA)
