BANGKOK, May 20 (TNA) — The 5th generation mobile communications (5G) will be efficiently developed as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is chairing a new committee to supervise the development himself, said Setthapong Malisuwan, list MP from the coalition Bhumjaithai Party.
Col Setthapong, in his capacity as head of the House’s subcommittee on digital infrastructure development, said the prime minister already set up a national committee to develop 5G in Thailand and he was its head.
That was a positive development because Thailand already organized an auction for 5G frequencies in February and operators were investing in relevant infrastructures. The new committee would set directions for 5G use to support national economy, public health, education and production. It could also recall unused or underused frequencies for 5G, he said.
“After COVID-19, digital technology will play much more important roles in everyday life. COVID led to new normal. People can work, order food and entertain themselves without going out and the internet facilitates this. If we have quality 5G, the country will have a very bright future,” Col Setthapong said.
5G would result in online education, telemedicine and efficient automatic production and the 5G development would be on the right track with the prime minister’s close supervision, he said. (TNA)
