BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha discussed the readiness of disease control officials with the defence forces chief and the police chief as Thai people will be returning from other countries and the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis is likely to persist.
Gen Prayut met defence forces chief Gen Pornpipat Benyasri and national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda to review situations during the imposition of emergency disease control measures set to end on April 30. They also discussed the imposition of the 10pm-4am curfew from April 3 to find the possibility of loosening some measures.
The prime minister ordered Gen Pornpipat and Pol Gen Chakthip to take best care of their personnel because the officials must effectively control the spreads of the disease which was likely to be prolonged. The security officials run nearly 1,000 checkpoints nationwide including those along the southern border where there are natural border passages.
They also discussed possible situations when Thai people would return to the South from Malaysia and Indonesia in the next few days. The returnees will arrive at five southern border checkpoints and be brought to quarantine facilities.
Pattani is among the southern border provinces to receive the returnees. Its governor Kraisorn Wisitwong said at least 1,000 returnees would arrive in his province.
He said Pattani prepared 140 quarantine facilities that could accommodate 3,029 people. (TNA)
