PHAYAO, Jan 28 (TNA) – Amateur boxers exchange punches in
their fights on a bamboo pole just for laughs to spectators at the famous Kwan
Phayao Lake in the northern province of Phayao.
A traditional water Thai boxing on bamboo pole or ‘Muay
Talay’ is a fun folk game that does not require much of martial art skill but,
rather, balancing skill.
The fight is won by staying on the pole longer than the
opponent; regardless of neither punch counts nor fighting techniques.
The tourism office of Phayao organised the outdoor community
activity along with row boat races to promote sporting tourism.
Locals, young and old, who entered the pole boxing
competition, were rewarded with laughter from their supporters, and even from
their opponents. (TNA)
