SING BURI, Jan 22 (TNA) – The police are searching
for stolen gold ornaments in the Chao Phraya River after the suspected gold
robber said he dumped the gold necklaces in the river near the Bang Rachan Bridge.
National police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda supervised
the search by diving teams near the Sangkharachawat Temple
in Sing Buri.
The suspect, identified as Prasitthichai Khaokaew, a headmaster of a school in Sing Buri
province confessed to the crime, in which three persons, including a toddler
were killed.
Prasitthichai told the police during interrogation that
he dumped the stolen gold necklaces, worth about 680,000 baht into the river.
The search operation started on Thursday morning and
was resumed in the afternoon.
The national police chief then went to the Wat Pho Chai school,
14 kilometres away to serach for more evidence, destroyed there as claimed by
the suspect.
The national police chief interrogated the suspect
on Thursday morning at a police station in Lop Buri.
In a press briefing after the interrogation, he refused
to elaborate on the motive behind the robbery, saying he would disclose the details
tomorrow at the Royal Thai Police Bureau.
The suspect acted alone and is not a scapegoat. He was
cooperative in the investigation, Pol Gen Chakthip said. (TNA)
