BANGKOK, Jan 2 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Thailand to monitor the value of baht closely.
Regarding the possibility of the baht exchange rate being below 30 baht against US dollar, Gen Prayut said that he always discussed the matter with the central bank and a committee comprising representatives from the bank, the Finance Ministry and economic organizations was closely monitoring the baht value and considering relevant measures.
In response to academics’ warnings of worse economic situations this year, the prime minister said he would like to hear their economic solutions rather than their criticisms. He was ready to implement sound solutions, he said.
Gen Prayut also said that the Commerce Ministry was sealing farm product trade deals with Germany, the United States and Turkey and promoting Thai products with neighboring countries.
Tourism was doing well and he would welcome campaigns to attract more visitors as long as they would not affect the environment and local people, the prime minister said.
He also asked people to cooperate with land expropriation for road and reservoir projects for the national interest. Demand for too much compensation could affect such projects, Gen Prayut said. (TNA)
