BANGKOK, Dec 24 (TNA) – With concerns over economic
prospects, Thai people are expected to spend less during New Year holiday,
according to the latest spending survey by the University of the Thai Chamber
of Commerce (UTCC).
Speaking at the press conference on Tuesday, UTCC vice-president for research Thanavath Phonvichai said the survey forecast that spending by Thais would increase by 1.9% from last year’s, the
lowest growth in 12 years.
Overall spending for shopping, leisure and tourism was
expected to reach THB137.8 billion baht this year, he said.
The global and domestic economic outlooks affected
consumers’ decisions on spending and travel during the festive season, he said.
Thanavath said top priorities for the government to address
next year included household debts and expenditures.(TNA)
