BANGKOK, Dec 13 (TNA) — Thailand hosts an international forum on water resource in Southeast Asia, aiming to promote laws and regulations on water management.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan opened the International Conference on Policies, Laws and Regulations for Water Resources Management in Southeast Asian Countries attended by representatives of 13 countries and international organizations at a hotel in Bangkok.
Gen Prawit said the Conference offered an opportunity to exchange experiences on water management and to draw up measures, laws and regulations to accommodate water disbursement.
Network building for academic works and researches during this event would benefit people, he said.
Thailand wished to learn from the forum to more effectively carry out its water management plan, Prawit said.
Somkiat Prajamwong, chief of Thailand’s Office of National Water Resources (ONWR), said the three-day forum focused on four topics; laws and regulations for sustainable water management, good governance and public participation, water-related disaster mitigation and future community water resource management.
The forum sought regional cooperation in efforts to alleviate water shortages in the region where people relied on water resources, he said. (TNA)
