BANGKOK, Dec 9 (TNA) — The Interior Ministry has announced the organization of the OTOP City 2019 fair that will present about 20,000 products to buyers just before the New Year festival.
Deputy Interior Minister Songsak Thongsri said the OTOP City 2019 would present especially the products that could be impressive New Year gifts from the producers whom the government considered as fundamental to the national economy. The sales of One Tambon One Products (OTOPs) from localities were creating jobs and income for people and helping narrow inequality in accordance with the 20-year national strategies of the government, he said.
The OTOP City fair had been organized for 13 times and generated the sales of OTOPs worth over 13.19 billion baht. This year the Community Development Department expected the fair to record sales worth at least 1.4 billion baht and draw at least 500,000 visitors and 3,500 exhibitors. The fair is set at the IMPACT exhibition and convention complex in Nonthaburi province on Dec 15-23 and will be officially opened at 3pm on Dec 16.
Suthipong Jullacharoen, director-general of the department, said the fair would present more than 20,000 items of outstanding products from 77 provinces and include exhibitions about His Majesty the King’s projects and the work of the department and its partners as well as cultural shows and concerts.
Highlights of this year’s OTOP City are zones of New Year gifts from 40 provinces, outstanding handicrafts including Yan Lipao bags from Nakhon Si Thammarat province, wood carvings from Chiang Mai, sailboat models from Chon Buri, tin products from Kamphaeng Phet, award-winning products and dressmaking.
