BANGKOK, Oct 21 (TNA) – Thailand’s exports in September
dropped 1.4 percent from a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry reports.
Pimchanok Vonkorpon, Director-general of the Trade Policy
and Strategy Office, Ministry of Commerce, said on Monday that Thailand’s
customs-cleared exports accounted for US$24.8 billion in September, declining
1.4 percent from the same month of last year.
Thailand’s imports dropped 4.2 percent in the same month,
leading to a US$1.27 billion surplus, she said.
Through three quarters of 2019, Thailand’s exports edged
down 2.1 percent.
Pimchanok said the Ministry forecast this year’s exports
would contract 1 percent year-on-year if the country managed to keep average
export value over US$20.8 billion in the remaining three months.
The contraction was largely influenced by the ongoing
slowdown in the global economy and trade but Thai exports of farm products such
as sugar and rubber managed to expand in various markets, she added.(TNA)
