BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) — Tourist police arrested two Indonesians for allegedly using forged credit cards causing damage worth about 2 million baht.
Tourist police commissioner Pol Lt Gen Chettha Komolwatthana said Mr Alexander Eddilias and Miss Estee Rasdia were arrested at a room in a hotel in Pratunam area. Police found with them 22 counterfeit credit cards, a notebook computer, a card data recording device and credit card slips.
According to the commissioner, the couple bought credit card data from dark websites and record them on the magnetic stripes of their counterfeit cards.
The suspects used the cards to buy goods and withdraw cash in crowded department stores. The crime caused damage worth more than 2 million baht.
In a separate case, police arrested Kriangwut Jantajon for allegedly stealing a wallet of a Japanese tourist at the BTS train station in Asoke area. BTS staff spotted the pickpocket before alerting police.
The stolen wallet contained 4,000 baht in cash and four credit cards. The tourist police commissioner said the suspect had previously stolen a wallet of a Korean tourist and other valuables in Thong Lor area. He had been released from jail last year.
Pol Lt Gen Chettha said tourist police were seriously suppressing criminals in the lead-up to the ASEAN Summit on Nov 2-5. (TNA)
