BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) – The Royal Thai Police has
planned to dispatch 10,000 police officers to provide security and direct
traffic at the venues of the 35th ASEAN summit and related meetings
during November 2-5.
Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk, deputy national police
chief said that Intelligence reported possible gathering of some political
dissidents at the summit venue, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi.
However, he said the police have prepared measures to maintain order.
Leaders of 18 countries have already accepted to
participate in the meetings.
The Cabinet resolved to designate Nov 4-5 as special
holidays in Bangkok and Nonthaburi to reduce traffic congestion during the
meetings.
Pol Gen Suwat said the security plan is 70 percent
readiness. Emergency response drills will be conducted as well as rehearsals to
provide security to leaders’ motorcades along the route.
He called for people to be the good hosts and to
plan their travel during that period. (TNA)
