BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) – The “Taste, Shop, Spend” campaign or the 1,000-baht cash handout scheme has generated more than eight billion baht in circulation with almost two billion baht spent during the recent three-day holiday alone.
Chankrit Detwitak, Vice Minister attached to the Prime Minister said that people, who registered for the cash handout campaign travelled to use their privilege at shops and restaurants in tourist provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son and Phetchabun.
The total spending reached 1.8 billion baht during the three-day holiday at the end of the Buddhist Lent from October 12-14.
The huge spending is considered the success of the project to create a cashless society and to promote the usage of e-wallet among 10 million people, he said.
From Sept 27 – Oct 14, eight billion baht was spent by participants. Out of 10 million registered people, more than 8.3 million recipients have used their privileges so far.
According to the official data, most recipients used their privileges in Bangkok, which recorded the spending of one billion baht, followed by 521 million baht in Chonburi and 344 million baht in Samut Prakan.
The 1,000-baht cash giveaway is part of the government’s 300-billion-baht stimulus package. The scheme, which aims at boosting domestic travel, received overwhelming public interest. (TNA)
