BANGKOK, Oct 11 (TNA) – The government will open its counter-fake news center in November together with its efforts to educate young people to identify fake news.
Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said about 40 officials from CAT Telecom Plc and TOT Plc would work at the counter-fake news center.
They would focus on receiving public complaints about fake news, verifying them and posting explanations on fake news online to reduce confusion among people, the minister said.
“The center will emphasize the creation of understanding and the dissemination of correct information through various channels. They will not conduct any investigation or arrest,” Mr Buddhipongse said.
Apart from the new center, the minister said that the government would educate people so that they could distinguish between true and false information so that they could receive correct information.
“The correction of information is at the end of the process. The government will solve the problem at its core by providing knowledge and understanding about considering information and selecting correct one. This must start with young people. The Ministry of Education will give the knowledge to children and young people,” Mr Buddhipongse said. (TNA)
