NEW YORK, Sept 27 (TNA) — Thailand has expressed its readiness to support the work of the United Nations while the UN Secretary-General praised the country for its sustainability-oriented efforts.
On the last day of his visit to the United States to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters.
In the meeting Gen Prayut praised the UN for its organizational reform to improve its own work and progress in its missions for peace and security. He promised that Thailand was ready to support the work of the UN including tasks related to sustainable development, public health and climate change.
Gen Prayut said that Thailand had its Sufficiency Economy Philosophy that got along well with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He also said that as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Thailand was developing ASEAN to be a people-centered community.
Mr Guterres told the prime minister that he was grateful for Thailand’s clear roles at regional and global levels and he praised Thailand’s roles as the ASEAN chair in emphasizing sustainable development.
Gen Prayut and his delegation’s plane departed from John F Kennedy airport in New York at 12pm local time heading for Thailand. The delegation was scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport at 9.55pm on Sept 27. (TNA)
