NEW YORK, Sept 23 (TNA) — The delegation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha arrived for the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and other activities related to Thailand’s roles as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
After its departure from Thailand at the night of Sept 21, his delegation reached John F Kennedy airport at 11.05am local time that was 11 hours behind Thailand time.
At 12.20pm the delegation arrived at Plaza Athenee Hotel, the place of accommodation for the prime minister. Many Thai people who supported him welcomed the prime minister there. Among the supporters, Sirima Boonchuen, 62, who lived in New York said she had received Gen Prayut in New York for the fourth time and she liked him because he was sincere and devoted himself to the benefits of the nation, religions and the royal institution. She said she wished Gen Prayut would extend his premiership for several times.
This afternoon Gen Prayut would be briefed on preparations for the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly and other activities during his visit.
In the general assembly, the prime minister would emphasize multilateral efforts to reduce poverty, promote quality education and equality, and cope with weather conditions. He would also call for international cooperation, environmental conservation and the sustainable exploitation of resources.
The UN General Assembly is expected to lead to declarations on sustainable development and the universal health coverage that Thailand has implemented successfully for 17 years. (TNA)
