BANGKOK, Sept 3 (TNA) – Thailand and Cambodia are
set to hold talks to resolve maritime border dispute during the 37th ASEAN
Ministers on Energy Meeting in Bangkok.
Seeking to resolve a decades-old dispute, both countries are
said to have been negotiating for solution and possibly create a joint
development area in the overlapping maritime border in the Gulf of Thailand.
This issue would be discussed between the two countries as
ASEAN energy ministers attended the 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting on
Wednesday and Thursday in Bangkok, an executive of PTT, Thailand’s largest oil
and gas company, said.
The overlapping maritime border is believed to have natural gas
reserves.
Under the theme of “Advancing Energy Transition through
Partnership and Innovation”, Thailand, as ASEAN chair, also hosts senior
energy officials on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the ministerial meeting.
ASEAN ministers will also meet with their counterparts from
dialogue partner countries, as well as representatives from international
organizations. (TNA)
