BANGKOK, Aug 28 (TNA) – Thai Industry Minister Suriya
Juangroongruangkit hails the Ministry’s Japan Desk for drawing Japanese
investment worth over Bt70 billion in the past decade.
The Ministry celebrated the 10th anniversary of the
establishment of Japan Desk on Wednesday to recognize the success of the
agency.
Mr. Suriya said Japan Desk, an agency under the Industrial
Promotion Department, had been instrumental in attracting Japanese investors
through both direct investment and joint ventures with Thai businesses.
Japan Desk was an important mechanism for building
connectivity and cooperation among private and public sectors, he said.
According to the minister, Japanese investment projects
topped the Board of Investment’s foreign investment list and Japan was
Thailand’s second largest trade partner with total trade value over Bt1.94 trillion.
The sentiment of Japanese businesses in Thailand, which
dropped in the first six months of 2019, has now picked up after the
installation of the new government, Thai government says.
Japan Desk was established in 2009 under an agreement
between Thailand’s Department of Industrial Promotion and Japan External Trade
Organization (JETRO). (TNA)
