CHIANG MAI, OCT 18 (TNA) – Britain’s Duke of Gloucester
on Thursday visited disadvantaged children at a center in Chiang Mai during his
official visit to Thailand.
The Duke, who began Thailand’s trip on Monday, extended his
moral support to children at the Children’s Advocacy Center, which was
established under coordination between the Thai government, international NGOs,
Thai and international police forces to combat child abuse, exploitation of
children and human trafficking.
The center’s choir performed to welcome The Duke.
Founder and director of the Hug Project in Chiang Mai,
Wirawan Mosby who has been honoured as a “Trafficking in Person Hero” by the US
State Department gave a presentation on the works against human trafficking and
child abuse.
The Duke of Gloucester’s official trip to Thailand is
described by the British Embassy as a trip “signifying the strength of the
UK-Thailand partnership.”
Earlier The Duke of Gloucester, a grandson of King George V
and a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, visited Kanchanaburi province to
attend a remembrance service for Commonwealth servicemen and women who gave
their lives in the construction of the railway, marking the 75th anniversary of
the Thai-Burma railway.(TNA)
