BANGKOK, Feb 22 (TNA) – The Thai Chamber of Commerce asks the government to call off a repeated RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on visitors entering the country through the Test & Go scheme on day 5 after their arrival to provide visitors with convenience.
Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said business operators and provincial chambers of commerce wanted the government to shorten the quarantine period and reduce the number of COVID-19 tests to welcome visitors.
At present, visitors through Test & Go must conduct three RT-PCR tests – the first test within 72 hours before arrival, the second on the day of arrival and the third on day 5 after arrival. That caused burdens to visitors, he said.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce viewed that the cancellation of the third test would promote visits and be beneficial to tourism and service sectors, Mr Sanan said.
This month, 82,887 visitors entered the country through Test & Go and only 869, or 1.05%, of them were infected with COVID-19, he said. He noted that most infections were local. (TNA)
