BANGKOK, Dec 13 (TNA) – Cargo containers were placed in a bid to secure Government House as protesters against an industrial estate project in Songkhla’s Chana district planned to rally there today.
Police moved containers from Orathai Bridge and Thewakam Intersection to block Rama V Road near Panichayakan Intersection. They kept a 50-meter clearance for demonstrators to gather.
Besides, steel barricades were placed to block Phitsanulok Road between Chamai Maruchet Bridge and Misakawan Intersection. Traffic police planned to reopen the section of the road temporarily depending on traffic conditions. Frontage lanes on Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue were also closed.
Police expected about 150 demonstrators from Chana district to show up in addition to the protesters who had stayed in front of the United Nations complex. Officials were deployed to ensure order.
The government invited representatives of the protesters to join a fact-finding committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow. (TNA)
