BANGKOK, Sept 2 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Predee Daochai resigned as the finance minister because he had a stroke and the government’s work would be intact.
The prime minister said Mr Predee reported that he had a stroke and the reason forced the resignation.
Mr Predee had assisted in the work of the government and the prime minister and despite the resignation, the government could continue with its work because regulations allowed relevant officials to take acting roles and a deputy prime minister overseeing economic affairs could also take charge, Gen Prayut said.
“No matter which part is missing, the government can function and the deputy (finance) minister and the prime minister can substitute. Please rest assured. I confirm that there is not a problem about confidence or any impact on foreign affairs because projects can proceed and relevant committees are working. The minister only implements them. Without the minister, the deputy minister and the prime minister in the capacity as the head of the economic team can handle all projects,” the prime minister said.
Asked about the new finance minister, Gen Prayut said that the successor would be appointed at an appropriate time. He did not elaborate on when it should be. (TNA)
