BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) – Energy consumption in Thailand dropped 10.1 percent in the first half of 2020 due to the global pandemic, says the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO).
EPPO director-general Watanapong Kurowat said that the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted the supply chain and disrupted domestic energy demand.
The consumption of gasoline was down 7.1 percent, diesel 4.3 percent and aviation fuel 48.6 percent in that period, Watanapong said.
EPPO forecast a 5.3 percent drop in energy consumption this year, he noted.
Because of the economic lockdown when most businesses were closed, electricity consumption also decreased 3.9 percent, he added.
Despite the reopening, power use this year was expected to drop by 2.3 percent from last year, said Wattanapong.(TNA)
