BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today strongly condemned Cambodia’s use of anti-personnel landmines, calling it a violation of Thai sovereignty, international law, and obligations under the Ottawa Convention.
Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Spokesperson for the MFA, reiterated Thailand’s firm stance, stating the ministry will issue a formal written protest to Cambodia. The protest will also formally cite the violation of the Ottawa Convention, aiming to hold Cambodia accountable for the incident.
The MFA plans to brief diplomatic missions in Thailand on the matter.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Foreign Minister, currently attending a United Nations meeting in New York, is set to discuss the issue with high-ranking international representatives. The minister will reaffirm Thailand’s commitment to peaceful negotiations through bilateral frameworks and urge Cambodia to cooperate in humanitarian demining efforts along the border. – 819 (TNA)
