BRUSSELS, Oct 17 (TNA) – The European Union has reiterated its strong commitment to its strategic partnership with Morocco, following a European Court of Justice ruling earlier this month that annulled the two parties’ agriculture and fisheries agreements.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, made the statement on behalf of the 27 EU member states after the conclusion of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on October 14.
He emphasized the significance of the Morocco-EU strategic partnership, which the EU values highly, and the mutual benefits and shared goals of both parties. Borrell also highlighted the joint commitment of the EU and Morocco to strengthen their long-standing and multifaceted cooperation, with a shared vision to deepen ties in the future.
Borrell addressed the European Court of Justice’s (ECJ) ruling on October 4, which invalidated the 2019 EU-Morocco agriculture and fisheries agreements due to the lack of the consent of the people of the Western Sahara, a disputed territory in Morocco.
The EU remains committed to strengthening its relationship in all areas, adhering to the principle of honoring commitments. -819 (TNA)
