BANGKOK, Nov 28 (TNA) – The Immigration Police have intensified efforts to crack down on foreign nationals entering Thailand to beg, with the latest operation resulting in the arrest of an additional 7 people from Jordan.
The group operated by targeting tourists purchasing goods. After receiving money, they would continue to beg for more money, sometimes standing by ATMs requesting amounts ranging from 500 to 1,000 baht.
Upon investigation, it was found that the suspects used tourist visas to enter Thailand, with some exceeding the legal duration of stay. They are now facing blacklisting and will be deported to their home country.
Regarding the ongoing case involving 6 Chinese beggars, Pol Maj Gen Phanthana Nuchanart, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, revealed that an examination of the financial transactions showed that the beggars exchanged the alms they received for Chinese yuan, which was then transferred to their own bank accounts. However, no evidence of a network or organized ring has been identified at this point in the investigation. (TNA)
