PATTANI, Oct 9 (TNA) – Two members of a teacher protection unit were shot in an ambush in the southern border province of Pattani and after the incident, a bomb went off at the shooting site.
Pol. Sgt. Watchara Chaikaew,33 was shot in the cheek and a defence volunteer, Sutthichai Yawa, 35 was shot in his leg.
According to the police investigation, six members of the teacher protection unit were riding on three motorcycles on patrol duty on Friday morning on a road in Saiburi district when an unknown number of gunmen, hiding by the roadside fired at them.
The bullet hit two of them and they were rushed to hospital.
During the police inspection at the shooting site, a bomb, planted near an electric pole there was detonated. The bomb is believed to target officials, responding to the incident.
The area has been cordoned off to prevent an untoward incident. (TNA)
