BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) — The Excise Department will allow the private sector to produce 300,000 liters of hand sanitizer gel to meet local demand.
Patchara Anuntasilpa, director-general of the Excise Department, said he discussed the matter with the Thai Ethanol Manufacturing Association as people and organizations highly demanded hand sanitizer gel made from alcohol and that caused the shortage of the product.
There would be a ministerial regulation to allow the private sector to produce alcohol for sanitization, he said.
“About 300,000 liters of hand sanitizer gel will be handed out. That will be about 100 liters a day. The distribution will start within March,” Mr Patchara said.
The Thai Tapioca Products Factory Association reported that the private sector could produce 6 million liters of ethanol daily. Of the production, 4 million liters can be used as fuel and the rest 2 million will feed hand sanitizer gel production. (TNA)
