BANGKOK, Nov 5 (TNA) – The chief of the International Monetary Fund proposed Thailand quickly develop its large-scaled infrastructures, public education and workers’ skills to ensure its long-term development.
Government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva made her proposal when she met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha after attending the 35th ASEAN Summit.
The spokesperson said both discussed sustainable development and solutions to global climate crises.
“The IMF managing director advised Thailand to quickly improve mega infrastructures, education and labour skills. The prime minister emphasized that the development of infrastructures and education are in a 5-year national strategic plan and relevant ministries are responsible for the improvement of workers’ skills,” Mrs Narumon said.
The prime minister also told the IMF managing director that Thailand would seriously limit the use of plastic products from Jan 1, 2020, and was prioritizing the protection of marine resources,” she said.
The government spokesperson said that the prime minister and the IMF managing director did not discuss in details a possible interest cut to stimulate investment. The prime minister told the IMF managing director that the Bank of Thailand was responsible for the matter and it was an independent organization that the government could not influence, Mrs Narumon said.
