BANGKOK, Oct 28 (TNA) – Thailand continues to drive
digital development in Southeast Asia as a way to strengthen ASEAN
connectivity, says Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Prayut on Monday opened “Digital Thailand Big Bang 2019”, an
international digital technology exhibition organized by the Digital Economy
and Society Ministry at the Impact Exhibition Center or BITEC.
As the chair of ASEAN this year, Thailand took the
opportunity to play a key role in driving digital development so the bloc could
build seamless connectivity, Prayut said at the opening ceremony of the forum.
Digital economy was a key part in his government’s Thailand
4.0 policy, given its important engine for economic growth, said Prayut.
Thailand’s digital competitiveness improved to 38th place
this year, up from 40th, and his government had constantly moved to promote it,
he noted.
Prayut also stressed on benefit of using digital technology
in reducing inequality, which was the theme of last year’s forum, because it
was a key engine to drive the economy, production, trade, services and
education.
Digital Thailand Big Bang offers a showcase of public and
private sectors’ progress in digital economic development. (TNA)
