BANGKOK, Aug 14 (TNA) – The Criminal Court dismissed the case against the 24 red-shirt leaders, arraigned on terrorism charges in relation to the 2010 demonstrations.
Public prosecutors filed charges against 24 leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) for instigating violence during the protest to oust the then Abhisit Vejjajiva government from Feb 28 – May 20, 2010.
They were accused of using weapons and invading into government officials, blocking roads and causing turmoil.
The court on Wednesday ruled that the red shirt leaders exercised their rights, demanding the then prime minister to dissolve parliament.
There is no substantial evidence or witnesses to confirm any of them were linked to acts of terrorism, the court said.
After hearing the verdict, one of the defendants, Nattawut Saikuar said the court’s ruling proved that the UDD protesters fought under the democratic principles and did not intend to carry out an act of terrorism. The court gave them an opportunity and justice. (TNA)
