BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has set up makeshift tents for vendors at the Chatuchak Weekend Market to sell their goods on the first day today after their shops were destroyed by a fire on June 2.
About 110 shops, occupying 1,000 squares meters were damaged in the fire that occurred around 9 pm. on Sunday when the market was closed.
Twenty temporary tents offer space for affected vendors to sell their goods pending reconstruction of the new shops.
Each affected vendors received 10,000 baht in compensation from the city hall.
The BMA will spend its budget of seven million baht for the construction, expected to be completed in two months.
In order to relieve their hardships, the rental fee will be exempted for vendors for one year.
The fire was likely caused by a short circuit.
The cost of damage was initially estimated at 119 million baht. (TNA)
