NAN, March 29 (TNA) – Air pollution in Thailand’s North
has worsened as forest fires continue in several areas.
Despite tough measures imposed against slash and burn
practice, farmers and villagers in remote areas continue to start fire to clear
their fields leading to spreading bushfires.
In Nan province, nearly eight acres of forest land in Phu
Kha National Park have been torched up.
Dozens of local volunteers and firefighters built a firebreak to contain
the blaze.
Chiang Mai faced the worst situation among the northern
provinces with 131 hotspots raging in the remote mountains, causing thick smog
and high level of PM2.5 dust particulates.
In Payao, forest fires have erupted in many areas, including
a raging fire in Mueang district.
Official reports say average level of hazardous smog has
reached dangerous levels in all nine northern provinces of the Kingdom for
weeks. Furthermore, bush fires in the
neighboring have been blamed for the poor air quality and haze in Thailand.
