BANGKOK, Dec 20 (TNA) – Thai lottery players spent 250 billion baht to buy lottery tickets and underground lottery each year, the amount equivalent to the investment in the high speed train projects to connect three main airports, said TMB Analytics, a research unit of TMB Bank.
The think tank’s survey found one-fourth of Thai population or about 20 million people buy lottery tickets and underground lottery, worth 250 billion baht, three times higher than the investment value in the Long Term Equity Fund (LTF) and Retirement Mutual Fund (RMF).
Most lottery players are aged between 33-55 years and they spend 500 baht per month on average on lottery tickets and underground lottery.
The survey found economic conditions had no impacts on lottery players. They invested in lottery even when the economy was not good. About 55 per cent of respondents viewed that lottery is hope and dream to get rich. About 44 per cent of lottery buyers expected to win the first prizes while chances of winning the jackpot are extremely low or one in million. (TNA)
