BANGKOK, Feb 21 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha said on Tuesday that he will dissolve the House of Representatives in early March and the election date will be May 7 as tentatively set in the timeframe of the Election Commission.
The House will be dissolved before its four-year tenure ends on March 23.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said the house dissolution depended on the Prime Minister. Gen Prayut would hold talks with coalition parties on the issue. It had to be in line with the EC’s plan as the EC had requested the Constitutional Court to rule on the calculations of the populations to redraw constituency boundaries.
If the prime minister announces the house dissolution, the royal decree will be issued to pave the way for holding the election and the EC will schedule the election date. After the House dissolution, the cabinet will continue to convene as normal. There could be a cabinet reshuffle and ministers can resign without any problem. (TNA)
